Welcome to Natural Doctors International (NDI) -An International Medical Volunteer Organization
NDI delivers natural medicine to underserved communities throughout the world and works with local peoples and international agencies to advance and fully integrate natural medicine into global health care. NDI focuses on primary healthcare delivery, global health education, global health policy, research in natural medicine, and socially responsible volunteerism and service. Our year-long medical placements and CE certified global health courses are for licensed naturopathic physicians, acupuncturists, chiropractors, nurses, herbalists, midwives, and conventional medical doctors with an interest in natural medicine. Students and lay people are encouraged to apply to our programs as well.
In response to the earthquake in Haiti that occurred on January 12, 2010, Sabine Thomas, ND, a Haitian-American naturopathic physician from Seattle, Washington, has partnered with Natural Doctors International (NDI) of Portland, Oregon, to coordinate relief efforts on behalf of the North American naturopathic medicine community. This partnership includes the collection of donations and future plans to provide care to the displaced Haitian communities directly affected by the earthquake in North America and on the island nation.
“We are honored to work with Dr. Sabine Thomas in solidarity with the Haitian people to bring any type of relief possible,” said Tabatha Parker, ND, Executive Director of NDI. “It is our hopes that by coordinating the efforts of the North American naturopathic medical community, we will be able to better provide a well-prepared and experienced response that can best aid the Haitian people.”
A Haiti Relief Effort Committee comprised of experts from the natural medicine community will develop a response plan and serve as the main contact point for North American based relief efforts in the naturopathic medical community. The two naturopathic professional associations in North America: the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND), along with North American naturopathic medical schools and organizations, including Bastyr University of Seattle, WA, National College of Natural Medicine of Portland, OR, Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine of Tempe, AZ, Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine of Vancouver, BC, Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine of Toronto, ON, the Institute of Natural Medicine in DC, the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners and the Naturopathic Medical Students Association have all joined these efforts.
Dr. Thomas added that “NDI’s mission to deliver natural medicine to underserved communities and to fully integrate it into global health care fits perfectly with the Haitian relief effort. My hope is that Haiti will continue to receive long term support and sustainable donations from the natural medical community at large.” Tax-deductible donations can be made on the Natural Doctors International (NDI) website at www.ndimed.org and clicking on “NDI Haitian Relief Effort.” Updates will be posted on this website, as well as NDI’s Facebook page. Calzado de Ometepe Kids race, organized by Natural Doctors International and Ultramaraton Fuego y Agua, was held on Dec 12, 2009, providing shoes and promoting fitness to children of the island. More than 400 kids participated in the event from communities all over the island including Alta Gracia, Urbaite, La Concha, La Flor, Moyogalpa, Los Angeles, Esquipulas, San Jose, and Los Ramos. Kids even came from Rivas on the mainland to run. Thanks to all who donated shoes, bicycles, and other great prizes especially Josue Stephens coordinator of the Ultramaraton and Brad Quinn from Traverse Trail Running. Thanks to everyone that helped in the NDI Auction this year - all the amazing volunteers that put in tons and tons of time to make the event a success - I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of all our hearts at NDI! NDI Soccer Team Wins The Championship!
The NDI soccer team came from being underdogs to winning the entire championship tonight in double overtime and final death on Ometepe. Team NDI beat the JUNIORS, 4 - 3 in an unreal match.
NDI wants to thank the team not only for their win, but for all the help they have given to NDI this year. This socially conscious team has volunteered in many NDI events that promote health like GARBAGE CLEANUPS, SCHOOL EVENTS and CALZADO OMETEPE.
